Don't Use Poor Customer Service A Reason For Government Intervention

  • Tuesday, December 22, 2015

I must say I am not surprised the Bradley County Commission is using poor customer service as a legitimate rationalization for government intervention. Well that’s not entirely true, one of the commissioners remarks does surprise me. If bad customer service is the justification for government intervention then the government needs to compete with Wal-Mart.

Wal-Mart is famous for their poor customer service nationwide. Lets start with Wal-Mart and move on from there. Should we also be open to the possibility of allowing the private market to compete with government agencies that provide horrible customer service?  Because we all know what great service we receive from government agencies.

As the recent article points out the largest beneficiaries will be the largest corporation not the homeowner. If you think the homeowners rate will decrease you are mistaken, over time they will eventually rise and you will have the same poor customer service or worse as before.

However what does surprise me after years of insisting that companies don’t actually receive tax dollars from tax abatements is the admission from some of the commissioners that tax abatements, better known as PILOT Agreements are transfers of tax dollars from taxpayers to businesses. Tax dollars forgiven is the same as tax dollars given.
