During the Monday night Bradley County Commission meeting, several commissioners voiced their disapproval of the way the Bradley County Board of Education handled its disagreement with former superintendent Johnny McDaniel.

Recently, the board voted to pay out and terminate Mr. McDaniel's contract.

Commissioner Jeff Yarber said he believed Mr. McDaniel should have been able to serve out his contract, especially "when we're struggling to find money to build Lake Forest."

Commissioner Howard Thompson said, "Nobody can give me a figure as to what it cost us to get rid of that superintendent."

He said, "Three or four months down the road, he might have quit...if they had just let him finish his turn it wouldn't cost us anything."

Commissioner Dan Rawls said the board's contract with Mr.

McDaniel required paying him until he finds another position.

As far as the next superintendent, commissioner Terry Caywood said, "We need someone who cares about the school system and is not interested in a power struggle."

Commissioner Bill Winters urged the commissioners not to lump this issue with financing the construction of Lake Forest Middle School.

He said, "That school has been languishing for 35 years."
