Combat Air Force Veteran Of 3 Deployments To The Middle East

Senior Master Sergeant James Barrett “Jamie” Smith, 47, of Soddy Daisy, died on Sunday, March 29, 2015.

Jamie was a member of the Dallas Bay Baptist Church. He joined the United States Air Force after high school in 1987. He was currently a member of the 241st Engineering and Installation Squadron of the Air National Guard in Chattanooga. Jamie was a combat veteran serving three deployments to the Middle East which includes a deployment in OIF and two deployments in OEF. He earned the Iraqi and Afghanistan Campaign Medals, the NATO Medal, a United States Army Commendation Medal as well as several other medals. He had been employed with AT&T for the past 22 years. 

Jamie is survived by his wife of 27 years, Ellen Smith; son, Joshua Smith USN and his wife Jessica; daughter, Lindsey Smith; parents, Brenda and Ken Elliott and a loving uncle and two aunts. 

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, April 3, at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with Lt. Jason Littlejohn and Captain Rob Dunbar, chaplains with the 118th Air Wing and LTC Chris Smith, Commander of the 214th EIS officiating. Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery, with military honors.

Visitation is from 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 2, at the funeral home.
