Jessica Hibbs
Jessica Lynn Hibbs, 45, of Hixson, died on Sunday, September 13 at her home in the loving arms of her mother and father.
She had fought a nearly two-year battle with pancreatic and liver cancer with amazing strength and courage and was an inspiration to many. Treatment for her disease was grueling but she always had a smile on her face and never wavered in her strength.
Jessica was born in Pittsburgh. She was a 1988 graduate of Hixson High School and received her bachelor's and master's degrees from UTC and was a CPA. She was a 23-year employee of The McCallie School, serving as executive director of finance, and despite her disease, chemotherapy and radiation treatments, she continued to work until less than one month before her death. Jessica was even awarded a McCallie honorary varsity letter for courage. She is the only female to be a member of the Letterman’s Club.
Jessica was predeceased by paternal grandparents, Clifford and Catherine Hibbs of Pittsburgh; maternal grandparents, Ralph and Grace Ludwig of Indian Harbour Beach, FL, formerly of Beaver, PA, and step-father, Andrew T Powers of Hixson.
She is survived by her mother, Eileen Powers of Hixson; father, Roger Hibbs and stepmother, Joy Hibbs, of Signal Mountain; brother, Michael Hibbs (Dianne German Hibbs); nephew, Wilson Hibbs and niece, Grace Hibbs, all of Albuquerque, NM. She is also survived by one uncle, six aunts and numerous cousins.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to her oncologist Dr. Vaishali Doshi for her compassion, thoroughness and support over the past 15 months and to the caring professionals of Hearth Hospice.
A very special thanks to all of the staff, faculty, administration, alumni, board members, former
board members and the extended McCallie family for their outpouring of love and support throughout Jessica’s illness.
A service to commemorate her life will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 20, in the funeral home chapel.
The family will gather with friends on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 5-8 p.m. and on Sunday, Sept. 20, from 1-3 p.m. at the funeral home.
Because Jessica loved all animals (especially cats), in lieu of flowers, a donation to the Humane Educational Society of Chattanooga, 212 North Highland Park Ave., Chattanooga, Tn. 37404 or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
Arrangements are by Hamilton Funeral Home & Cremation Services; 4506 Hixson Pike, Hixson, Tn., 423 531-3975.
