Baylor Soccer Teams Win Team Academic Award

  • Tuesday, September 29, 2015

Baylor women's and men's soccer teams both won the National Soccer Coaches Association of America  "Team Academic Award" for this past year.

"This award is what we want our soccer program to be represented for in high school athletics," Baylor head soccer coach Curtis Blair said. "We want to excel in the classroom and on the soccer field. This award is dedicated to all the wonderful faculty and teachers that spend so much time with our student-athetes. This award is dedicated to them."

"To be recognized in top 50 high schools in America with BOTH programs winning this award is outstanding. I am excited for our school, community, and our soccer program."

The NSCAA annually recognizes high school soccer programs that have excelled in the classroom, in addition to their work on the field. A total of 390 soccer teams (146 boys, 244 girls) from throughout the United States have earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award for exemplary performance in the classroom as a team during the 2014-15 academic year.

To qualify for the award, the team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.25 for the entire academic year. The team GPA is determined by adding every player's GPA, then dividing by the number of players.

Among these programs are 49 schools receiving honors for both their boys and girls teams. The double honorees are:
