La Paz Chattanooga will host its annual Sangria on the Bluff fundraising event to benefit Chattanooga’s Latino community on Thursday, May 17. Sangria on the Bluff is La Paz Chattanooga’s annual cultural event highlighting Latino and Hispanic heritage.
Spain will be featured this year, acknowledging the root of Hispanic heritage, influencing what we know as Latin America. Spanish culture will be showcased through live dance performances from Caló Gitano.
Caló Gitano specializes in live, interactive, and energetic flamenco presentations for audiences of all ages.
“Our shows are very interactive and energetic, and are designed to transport our audiences straight into the cultural heart of Spain," said Marianela “Malita” Belloso, the director of the group. "We even make sure that the audience members get a chance to learn a few steps and have fun with us dancing to some great Rumba Flamenca beats. You will surely be dancing by the end of our show."
Ms. Belloso was born in Caracas, Venezuela, and started dancing flamenco when she was only six years old. By the time she was nine she was performing in major flamenco stage productions with the largest flamenco dance academy in Venezuela.
Sangria on the Bluff will be held from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at the Hunter Museum of American Art. Tickets may be purchased for $85 online at www.lapazchattanooga.org/sangria.
