Beloved Baseball Coach Was A Medical Sales Representative

Billy Joe Sanders Jr., 50, of Chattanooga went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, July 27, 2018, after fighting cancer with a warrior spirit.

Billy spent much of his early life in Columbus, Ga., before moving to Chattanooga in 1993.  

He was a graduate of Kendrick High School in Columbus. He then attended Andrew College and Southern Polytechnic Institute. He played baseball for both colleges.

He was a well-known and loved coach during his children’s lives and inspired many young people along the way.

Billy served as a medical sales representative of Orthopedic Trauma Devices for Johnson and Johnson for many years. He attended Calvary Chapel on Broad Street.

He was an avid sportsman enjoying football, baseball, golf, lacrosse , surfing, hunting and enjoyed traveling as well.

He was especially proud to be an Alabama Crimson Tide fan.

He was the son of the late Billy and Betty Sanders.

Billy will be remembered as a loving and dedicated husband and father.

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Survivors are his wife, Wendy Sanders; children, Courtney Sanders, Allie Sanders, Ryan Sanders and Jared Mathys, all of Chattanooga; brother, Brett (Lavonda) Sanders, Savannah, Ga.; niece, Brooke Sanders, nephew, Brett Sanders Jr.

A Celebration of Billy’s life will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 1, at 6 p.m. at the Calvary Chapel Chattanooga , 3409 Broad Street. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, Aug. 2, at 10 a.m. at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Greater Chattanooga Colon Cancer Foundation at gcccf.org.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 31 from 4-8 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 E. Brainerd Rd. and Wednesday from 4-6 pm at Calvary Chapel, 3409 Broad Street.
