Fall 2018 HIT Workforce Education Registration Open In Chattanooga Region

  • Thursday, August 2, 2018
The Tennessee Chapter of the Health Care and Information Management Systems Society Chapter and the Center for Executive Education at Belmont University will once again partner with BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee to bring a 14-week certification program to health care information technology professionals in the Chattanooga region.

Designed for health care professionals of all levels, backgrounds and career paths, the program teaches students how the blending of health care and IT can affect care outcomes.
The curriculum also covers the future of health care and business processes in health care.

The second class in the series will be held Sept. 10 at 6:30 p.m. at BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee headquarters. Individuals who are unable to attend the class in person may attend virtually via live remote broadcast.

“Improving the integration of technology in health care translates to improved outcomes,” said Nick Coussoule, SVP and chief information officer of BlueCross. “We’re proud to support an endeavor that helps our industry become more responsive and effective at meeting community health needs.”

Throughout the course, students gain exposure to the health care provider, payer and vendor settings. Led by HIT professionals, the program’s students experience real-life challenges and determine best practices to bring into their careers.

“Attending the TN HIMSS Workforce Accelerator class was invaluable to me,” said Carolyn Miller, IT business analyst at BlueCross. “It is an eye-opening deep-dive into important elements of the industry, such as Electronic Health Records, Smart Health devices, systems and applications.”

The training offers a detailed view of the U.S. health care system and policies, along with specialized knowledge about HIT systems and processes. Participants gain an understanding of vendor solutions using team-based skills.

The accelerator program certifies workforce-ready professionals pursuing careers in the HIT sector through specialized training with industry professional and HIMSS member companies.
