Coming off a three-goal week, Covenant men's soccer junior forward Jake Major collected USA South Player of the Week honors, for the period ending Oct. 20, announced the conference on Monday.
It is the first career player of the week honor for Major and he becomes the second Scot to earn the award this year (Mercer Stout, Sept. 2). Major's award is the fourth time this season a Covenant player has garnered a weekly accolade from the USA South.
A junior from Dacula, Ga., Major tallied three goals and an assist to help Covenant to a 2-0 week against USA South foes.
In a 5-0 win over LaGrange on Friday, Major scored in the 17th minute before assisting on Austin Berry's goal in the 56th minute. On Saturday, in a 5-0 victory over Huntingdon, Major notched the first and third goals of the game, in the fourth and eighth minutes, respectively.
Major's two-goal match on Saturday was his second career multi-goal contest.
On the year, Major is producing a career season for the Scots with eight goals and two assists. His 18 points rank third on the team, while his two eventual game-winning scores are also third.
Covenant (13-2-1, 10-0 USA South) wraps up the regular season this week with three matches starting with Brevard on the road on Tuesday. The match, a make-up from Sept. 14, is set for 4 p.m. The Scots have won 15 straight regular season conference matches going back to 2018.
