18-Unit Residential Project Planned On N. Market Street

  • Tuesday, October 29, 2019

An 18-unit residential project is set to get underway soon at 712 North Market Street.

The location is just south of Northside Upholstery.

Officials said the entry will be off N. Market rather than Hamilton Avenue to the rear.

Mike Price told members of the Form Based Code Committee that one section would be commercial, but staff member Emily Dixon said that is not allowed. The panel was then told that part will be a clubhouse for the residents of the new project.

Mr. Price sought a 24-foot driveway rather than 20-foot and that was allowed after some discussion. He said it was needed because of the angle of the turnout. Otherwise, he said one vehicle would not be able to leave and another enter at the same time, and it would back up traffic on busy North Market and be a safety hazard.

There was also discussion about the safety of bicyclists and pedestrian at the entryway.

There was once a house at the site with a narrow driveway.
