After an unbeaten week, Covenant women's soccer freshman goalkeeper Lucy Sandhoff (Lookout Mountain, Ga./Chattanooga Christian) earned USA South Defensive Player of the Week honors, for the period ending Oct. 6, announced the conference on Monday.
It is the second weekly award garnered by Sandhoff this season as she earned Rookie of the Week accolades on Sept. 23.
A freshman from Lookout Mountain, Ga., Sandhoff recorded two shutout victories and allowed just one score in 290 minutes of action to help Covenant to a 2-0-1 record.
Sandhoff had made three saves in a 3-0 victory over Oglethorpe last Monday to start the week. She then collected six saves in a 1-1 draw at Huntingdon on Friday before registering three saves in a 2-0 win at LaGrange on Saturday.
Sandhoff and the Lady Scots have been strong on the defensive half of the field over the last four matches allowing only one goal. Covenant is 3-0-1 over that stretch and outscored opponents 8-1.
On the year, Sandhoff has compiled four shutouts and a save percentage of .778 in 10 matches, all starts. She ranks first in the USA South in shutouts and sixth in the conference in wins (4).
Covenant (4-4-2, 2-0-1 USA South) will be back in USA South play on Thursday at Berea. Kick-off is set for 4 p.m.
