For seven consecutive years, Outdoor Chattanooga has hosted Fireside, a free, family-friendly outdoor concert series, sponsored by Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union on Thursday evenings in October at the Greenway Farms City Park in Hixson. This spring, in partnership with La Paz Chattanooga and some additional donors, the outdoor concert series is expanding to offer Fireside Latino Nights at Tatum Park in the historic Highland Park Neighborhood on Thursday evenings in April from 7-9 p.m.
All ages and walks of life are invited to come out, unplug and enjoy a spring evening gathered around a campfire listening to live music in Tatum Park, 1609 Union Ave.
“The original concept behind the outdoor concert series remains the same,” Terri Chapin, Outdoor Chattanooga’s program coordinator said, “We want families to come outside for an evening and unplug from technology. Music has a way of bringing people together and we’re excited to reach a new audience with the La Paz partnership.”
With the growing success of the Fireside concerts at the Greenway Farms Park over the past seven years, there was a collaborative effort with TVFCU, Outdoor Chattanooga, and La Paz Chattanooga to expand the series to a new neighborhood park to reach a new diverse audience with Latino influenced music.
“TVFCU is excited to be a collaborator of a new concert series that will celebrate Latino culture in the Tennessee Valley,” said Tammy Zumbrun, TVFCU’s marketing and community outreach manager. “We love that the concert will bring people from all walks of life together each Thursday night in April.”
Fireside Latino Nights aims to celebrate the diversity that exists within the Latino Community, the Highland Park neighborhood, and Chattanooga by hosting a variety of artists representing multiple cultural backgrounds and musical genres. Throughout the 4-week concert series, concertgoers will experience Latino genres and enjoy the sounds of mariachi, Spanish rock, salsa, and Latin jazz, along with non-Latino genres like R&B, Funk, Swing, and Bluegrass.
"La Paz Chattanooga has been a part of the Highland Park community for years, and we are excited to see other organizations invest in the rich experience of our neighborhood through this music series," said Executive Director Stacy Johnson.
On-street parking is available around Tatum park. Families are encouraged to arrive early, beginning at 6 p.m. with their own blankets, chairs, picnic suppers, and marshmallow roasting sticks to enjoy a full evening of entertainment outside in the park. In addition to the live music, food vendors will be on site with food available for purchase.
Additional support provided by the Benwood Foundation and Riverview Foundation.
