Tri-Community Volunteer firefighters saved a dog in a house fire in Ooltewah Sunday evening.
At 6:30 p.m., a 911 call was made reporting a house fire at 8404 Old Cleveland Pike.
The Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene and reported heavy smoke and fire coming through the roof. Firefighters worked to lay 2,000 feet of hose line to get water to the fire scene. Firefighters conducted an interior attack and knocked the fire down in a few minutes.
During a secondary search throughout the house, firefighters found a dog in a bedroom. They administered oxygen and the dog will survive the fire. However, one dog did not survive the fire.
The cause of the fire is undetermined and will be under investigation by the Tri-Community VFD Fire Marshall’s office.
Damages are unknown at this time but fire officials report the home is a total loss.
The Chattanooga Fire Department and Highway 58 VFD responded for Mutual Aid to cover Tri-Community VFD district for any additional emergency calls. Chattanooga-Hamilton County Rescue provided rehab for the firefighters on the scene.
The American Red Cross will be assisting the family with their immediate needs.
Animal Control was called to the scene to temporarily house the dog who survived the fire.
