A wedding venue off McDonald Road won approval for a special events permit on Monday from the Planning Commission despite a neighbor's complaint about noise.
Tim Stafford said The Barn At Beechtree Farm is already in business, conducting 18 weddings last year.
He said he built the barn for his daughter's weddings, then others said they wanted to use it as well.
It went on a regular schedule after three no-charge trial weddings, he said.
Robert Binns, who lives nearby, said he has called the wedding operators about 20 times with noise complaints. He said even though the music is set up inside the barn he can still hear it loudly inside his home.
He said, "I didn't buy 15 acres out in the country to get all this noise."
The staff of the Regional Planning Agency had recommended denial, saying the site is a "flag lot" with a long narrow piece for the driveway.
Another issue is whether the barn is at least 30 feet away from the property line.
Mr. Stafford said, "It's close."
The case next cases to the County Commission.
