In a day when six police officers have just been shot in Philadelphia and the rising clamor in the nation is centered on the AR-15 assault rifle, you’ll get more of a kick out of seeing the picture a portrait allegedly found in the offices of billionaire Jeffery Epstein of former president Bill Clinton wearing what appears to be a woman’s blue gown and high heels than the truth about an AR-15 rifle.
The reality is that an AR-15 is just a sexed-up .22 caliber semiautomatic rifle like your kid brother has lying among the dirty socks in his clothes closet.
You can order one, quite legally, on the Internet and there are so many spare parts and alterations at weekend gun shows a salesman will lead you to believe the only other thing Davy Crockett would need to stop a Soviet tank would be a plug of chewing tobacco.
Make no mistake. I’m for trying anything to stop mass murders but let’s enhance mental health and, so help me, we’ll save more lives than we’ll ever lose. I promise.
They talked about calling Congress in from summer vacation to face this “epidemic” of mass shootings but an AR-15 has about the last thing in the world to do with it. Hundreds of millions of guns easily available in the United States are simply tools. That’s why I have written a gazillion times the only hope we have is to spend the panickers’ dollars on mental wellness.
Those of us who simply take our medicines are mentally well. Those who suffer and who do NOT take their meds are mentally ill. Mentally-well people do not want to kill anybody else.
But here’s the shocker. I got an email from the dandies at the Tea Party who used an article out of the well-respected Breitbart News that is certain to loosen the caps on the liberal elite’s Valium vaults. Using the latest and most-refined criminology research in the world, please make a personal guess at the deaths caused by AR-15 assault-type weapons in the United States, using the latest information available (2017 figures.) Now, see for yourself.

2017 FBI STATISTICS of MURDERS WHERE AN ‘AR-15’ WAS USED
More Americans were killed in 2017 with hammers and clubs than were killed with rifles of any kind.
And yet they want to ban our AR-15s?!
In September 2018, Breitbart News reported on the most recent numbers, those from 2017. These figures showed that 467 people were killed by “blunt objects (hammers, clubs, etc.),” while 403 were killed with rifles.
Let’s hit that once again: In a nation where there are roughly 325 million people, in the entire country only 403 were killed by a rifle of any kind And it must be noted that the category of “rifles” used by the FBI includes bolt action, pump action, single shot, and semi-automatic, as well as those the liberals describes as “assault weapons.”
This means only a percentage of the 403 deaths attributed to “rifles” would have been carried out with an “assault weapon.” So the gap between the number of persons beaten to death with hammers and clubs verses those killed with “assault weapons” would be even greater than the gap between those who died in a hammer/club attack versus those who died being shot with “rifles” of any kind.
Breitbart News also reported that the 2017 crime figures showed 1,591 people were killed with “knives or cutting instruments” while 403 were killed with “rifles.” This means nearly four times as many people were stabbed to death as were killed with any kind of rifle. (The gap between the number stabbed to death and the number of persons explicitly killed with an “assault weapon” would be even greater.)
Meanwhile, Democrats are pushing a ban on “assault weapons” while Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (RINO-KY) says that legislation for such a ban would be “front and center” when the Senate reconvenes.
This week, US District Judge Josephine Staton of the Central District of California ruled that the Second Amendment does not mean that semiautomatic “killing machines” need to be legal in California.
On July 11, 2019, Breitbart News reported a Florida homeowner used an AR-15 to stop four alleged intruders. He killed two and was shot and wounded by gunfire from the alleged invaders as well.
On March 28, 2017, NBC News reported that a homeowner’s son used an AR-15 to fend off three alleged intruders and on May 13, 2014, Breitbart News reported that North Carolina homeowner used a AR-15 to defend himself against a suspect who kicked in the door of his house.
Over nine million AR-style rifles were manufactured for U.S. sales during the Obama administration and ATF Associate Deputy Director Ronald Turk used a 2017 “White Paper” to explain that AR-15s are now the go-to gun for hunting, sport shooting, and other interests.
The Washington Post quoted Turk, saying, “The use of AR-15s, AK-style, and similar rifles now commonly referred to as ‘modern sporting rifles’ has increased exponentially in sport shooting. These firearm types are now standard for hunting activities. ATF could re-examine its 20-year-old study to bring it up to date with the sport shooting landscape of today, which is vastly different than it was years ago.”
