Cleveland State's McConnell Earns Academic Award

  • Friday, August 23, 2019

Cleveland State honored 2018 women's cross country alumni Whitney McConnell Thursday night before the Volleyball game.

McConnell earned a TCCAA academic award for her dedication in the classroom last season, receiving the Highest Academic Honor for Women's Cross Country from the conference, as she posted the highest individual GPA of all of the women's runners.

Cleveland State President Dr. Bill Seymour, Athletic Director Mike Policastro, and Head Cross Country Coach David Kyle were present to present the award to McConnell, who was the first runner Cleveland State Cross Country signed in program history, in front of the fans in attendance.

"Whitney is a incredible young lady," said Kyle. "I watched her run most of her young life at local meets and road races... She worked hard for two years running and in the classroom. She lead by example and was a vital part of building our program to what I want here. A great student athlete. She will continue her education and no doubt be very successful at UTC. This honor was very much deserved."

McConnell is continuing her education at UT-Chattanooga.
