Former Probation Officer Charged In TBI Theft And Misconduct Case

Special agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation have obtained indictments for a former misdemeanor probation officer who stands accused of mishandling funds in his control.

In November, 2018, at the request of 12th District Attorney General J. Michael Taylor, TBI agents began investigating Robin Smith, an employee of Southeast Tennessee Human Resource Agency. During the course of the investigation, agents developed information that Smith, 59, took some of the payments paid by misdemeanor probationers for his own personal benefit. Smith resigned in July.

On Tuesday, the Franklin County Grand Jury returned indictments, charging the Decherd man with one count of theft less Than $2,500 and one count of official misconduct. On Wednesday, agents arrested and booked Smith into the Franklin County Jail on $10,000 bond.
