Owner Of Capsized Boat Found On Tennessee River Above Knoxville Found Unharmed

  • Saturday, December 19, 2020

The owner of a capsized boat that was found on the Tennessee River above Knoxville this morning has been located unharmed.  The boat’s owner contacted the TWRA Region 4 Dispatcher and reported that he and a friend overturned the boat around 5:30 a.m. and had not returned to look for it.

Wildlife officers said a motorist crossing the South Knoxville Bridge around 9 a.m. saw the capsized boat upstream and called 911.  Rescue services responded to the scene and recovered the boat, an orange, canoe type boat manufactured by Gheenoe equipped with an electric trolling motor.  Wildlife officers say that gear associated with duck hunting was also recovered from the scene.

TWRA and emergency services searched the banks and boat ramps of the Holston, French Broad and Tennessee rivers by way of boat and helicopter, and had not located any person or vehicle associated with the overturned boat.
