Sylvia McDaniel Brooks, 67, of Chattanooga, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 24, 2020, at her home after an extended illness.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley and Jessie McDaniel; and brother Burton McDaniel.

 

Sylvia was born in Chattanooga and graduated from Lakeview High School in Ringgold, Ga. Sylvia graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and two Masters degrees in Reading and Elementary Education, all from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She spent her career and retired as a teacher from Boynton Elementary School in Ringgold, Ga.

 

Sylvia was active in the Chattanooga Geology Club and the Photographic Society of Chattanooga. She will be remembered most for her love of dancing and her beautiful smile.

 

Sylvia is survived by her husband, John Brooks; her sisters-in-law, Judy McDaniel, and Nan Brooks; and her nieces and nephews, Tripp Brooks, Eric Brooks, Wes McDaniel, Ali Hill, Anna LoBean, and Will McDaniel.

 

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at Salem Cemetery in Ringgold.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD), 2700 Horizon Drive, Suite 120, King of Prussia, PA, 19406.
