While I applaud the ingenuity of converting the Bonnyshire Emissions Center into a COVID testing center, this is not enough. We could save a lot more lives converting all emissions centers into drive-through testing center. Consider the following:
Those that fail emissions tend to be in the lower income brackets. Aside from being hit with yet another financial burden during a recession, these groups would be forced to contact others - whether that be a mechanic, friend or relative - to resolve their automotive issues. This is the exact opposite of what the experts are telling us to do.
The idea of using the Chattanooga Convention Center as a testing facility is misguided. It is designed for large gatherings. But, again, large gatherings are how the pandemic spreads.
How many lives have been lost this year due to emissions? How many lives have been lost due to the Pandemic? If the function of the emissions centers is the Public Good, then that can best be served by attacking the more dangerous enemy.
