Baylor School has named varsity boys basketball coach Mark Price as the school’s athletic director, effective July 1.
Price will continue to serve as a varsity coach and is replacing Thad Lepcio, who was recently named the athletic director for Peddie School in New Jersey.
"I am eager to serve Baylor in the role of athletic director,” said Price. “It's a privilege to lead a department of our school that carries such an outstanding tradition of success. We have a tremendous group of coaches and athletes in our programs and I look forward to helping with their continued excellence. I am very thankful to (Baylor headmaster) Scott Wilson and the leadership of our school for giving me this opportunity."
Price will oversee a program that has won more state championships than any high school in the state of Tennessee, was once ranked among the top 25 high school sports programs in the U.S. by Sports Illustrated, and was recently the third-ranked high school athletic program in the nation, according to MaxPreps.com. More than 100 Baylor alums are currently playing sports at the collegiate level.
"I am very excited that Mark will be leading our athletic program. During his short time at Baylor, he has impressed everyone with his character, work ethic, and rapport with coaches, athletes, faculty, and parents,” said Baylor School Headmaster Scott Wilson.
In his two years at Baylor, Price’s teams have established a record of 38-16 including two Best of Preps tournament titles and two appearances in the Division II-AA State Final Four.
Before arriving at Baylor, Price served as an assistant coach for the Division I Belmont University Bruins from 2011-2017 before his arrival at Baylor. During his tenure at Belmont, the Bruins earned a record of 144-55, won six consecutive conference championships, received national Top 25 poll votes six out of seven campaigns, earned victories over North Carolina, Marquette, Stanford, Georgia, and nationally-ranked Murray State, posted the nation's longest home court win streak and road win streak, and reached the quarterfinal round of the Postseason NIT.
Prior to Belmont, Price spent two seasons as head coach at Ouachita Baptist University, an NCAA Division II member institution located in Arkadelphia, Ark. Price also spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Furman University and five seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, helping UAH to the 2002-03 Gulf South Conference championship and NCAA Tournament appearances in 2003 and 2006. In 2001, Price was a key piece in Faulkner (AL) University finishing with a 34-5 record en route to the 2001 NAIA National Championship. He began his coaching career in 1998 as an assistant at the University of Mobile. The Rams won five NAIA national tournament games in Price's two campaigns.
In addition to his coaching duties, Price has served as a campus leader for Belmont University ministries and the school's Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) organization, leading a group of Bruin student-athletes on mission trips to Kenya, Haiti, and South Dakota.
A native of Brandenburg, Ky., he earned a bachelor's degree in secondary education from Samford University in 1998. He and his wife, Kara, have two daughters, Kate and Kallie.
