Bob Bookout
Harold Robert "Bob" Bookout passed away at his home on July 7, 2020.
He was born to Charles Lee and Grace Crowder Bookout in Chattanooga on Nov. 2, 1929.
Bob attended Hamilton County Schools, graduating from Tyner High School in 1947. He had an associate degree from Cleveland State and also attended UT Knoxville. Later he taught printing and photography at Harrison Bay Vocational School and Cleveland State College.
At the beginning of the Korean Conflict Bob and his brother were in the National Guard Band in Chattanooga. They were called to active duty at Fort Stewart, Ga. When this group disbanded, Bob enlisted in the Army and served with the 24th infantry Division band in Japan and Korea. Prior to this he was selected and attended the Navy School of Music in Washington, D.C. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant.
Beginning as a pressman, Bob advanced in the printing industry to plant manager. He worked for years in the printing trade in Chattanooga and Cleveland, Tn. After retiring from printing, he and Peg owned and operated a business, the Art Emporium in Hamilton Place Mall.
Bob enjoyed playing and watching sports and coached at Pitner Field in East Brainerd.
Known as a quiet and kind man, Bob was a Christian and member of Concord Baptist Church since the age of twelve. There, he was a Deacon and had other leadership roles, especially with the youth group.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, son Charles Lindsay Bookout, brother Chester Bookout, sister Louise Davidson, parents-in-law Virgil and Frankye Lindsay.
Bob is survived by his wife of 70 years, Peg. Also surviving are daughter Alice Bookout Barlew Graham (Leon), grandson Jared Barlew (Kelly), their children Lindsay Warner (Jacob), Allison Barlew (fiancé Conner), Kyle Bowman, Jake Card-Johnson (Robert), grandson Jordan Lindsay Barlew, and sister-in-law Diane Bookout.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 10, at the funeral home chapel, Pastor David King officiating. Burial will be at National Cemetery.
