Margaret Hicks

Margaret Katherine Hicks was one of nine children born to Edward and Beulah (Sloan) Miller. She was born May 19, 1930 in Salisbury, North Carolina.  In her growing up years, her family lovingly called her “Kat”.

Margaret moved to Baltimore, in the early 1950s for more work opportunities. She lived in Baltimore until 2002 when she retired and moved back to her childhood home in Salisbury.  She later moved to Chattanooga to be close to her son.

Church has always been an important part of Margaret’s life.  In Baltimore at Whitestone Baptist Church, she was an usher and continued in that ministry at First Calvary Baptist Church in Salisbury.  She transferred her membership to New Covenant Fellowship Church when she moved to Chattanooga Tennessee. There she was involved in the Women’s Ministry and started a Bible study group in her apartment complex at Dogwood Manor.  Margaret had a personal missionary outreach of mailing and distributing New Covenant Fellowship Devotional booklets in her neighborhood and remotely to friends and family in several states.

Margaret leaves to cherish her memory son, Bernard (Madeline) Miller, Chattanooga; grandson, Zachary Miller, Chattanooga; great- grandchildren, Malaysha and Joshua Miller, Salisbury; great-great-grandchild, MaiJa’ Miller, Salisbury, N.C.; sister, Eula Phillips, Salisbury, and a host of nieces and nephews.

A service will be held in Salisbury.

Local arrangements are by John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 423 622-9995.
