Thursday night "Big Sexy" Brandon Overton of Evans, Ga., shocked and awed the Wisconsin crowd at Cedar Lake Speedway as the notorious Southerner led flag to flag the opening night of the World of Outlaws Late Model series' USA Nationals.
Often overlooked as one of the hottest Dirt Late Model racers in America in 2020, due to his racing schedule being predominantly in the South, compared to the Lucas (Oil series) and WoO tour, Overton kept his Wells Motorsports #76 "Overton Crossfit, AllStar Concrete, EZ-GO" sponsored Longhorn racecar well ahead of Tennesseean Jimmy Owens (#20) and Brandon Sheppard (who finished 9th overall) for the $6,000 preliminary victory.
Texan Tyler Erb (#1), Dirt Late Model icon Billy Moyer Sr and Tennessean Mike Marlar rounded out the Top 5 of the night's 46 entrants. Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg was 10th and the race's hard charger advanced 14 position during the 30-lapper.
Friday sees more preliminary action before Saturday's $50,000 to-Win 100 lapper. It can be watched live on DIRTVision Internet for subscribers of the website.
Racing action around Tennessee and Northeast Alabama is abundant this weekend and new life was just given back to Dalton/Chatsworth's North Georgia Speedway with a new promoter reopening the ultra fast 1/3-mile track.
