Mary Pyron
Mary Joanne Pyron, passed away on September 1, 2020, at the age of 88, in a facility where she was receiving hospice care for dementia.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Pyron, four daughters, Bradley (Dick) Jenkins, Gail (David) Sterchi, Carol (Phil) Rose and Nancy (Marc) Williams, 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, four step-children, Betsy Parsons, Jeff Hampton, Tony and Jesse Pyron.
Joanne was born on July 8, 1932, in Tiplersville, Ms., and moved to Chattanooga in 1952. She retired from Holiday Inn in 1994 to care for her husband of 25 years, Bailey Lee Hampton. She remarried after his death, and enjoyed what she described as the happiest years of her life. Joanne was an active member of Red Bank Baptist Church until her Alzheimer’s progressed and had accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She loved all sports, pitched softball at 60, bowled into her 80s and loved playing cards and games with family and friends. She also loved to travel and was happiest outdoors, walking, gardening, or taking motorcycle rides with Charles.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 5, at 10 a.m. in the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home, with Bill Harvey officiating.
A private interment will be held at a later date at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
