Lee University’s fall Convocation will begin on Sunday and conclude on Wednesday, Sept. 10. This dedicated time at the beginning of the semester will allow the university to come together in community and prayerfully enter the semester ahead.

“Convocation marks a sacred beginning to each semester at Lee. It is a time to ask the Holy Spirit to awaken our hearts to what He desires to do among us,” said Wes Lutes, campus pastor. “This year’s theme is ‘Awakening,’ driven by the statement of our president, Dr. Cook, at a recent chapel when he said, ‘God is still speaking.’ He is still calling, still healing, still guiding.”

Each service will welcome a different speaker, beginning with Lee President Phil Cook and concluding with JC Worley, lead pastor of GO Church, who serves at the South Metro campus in Sharpsburg, Ga.

Dr. Cook, in his inaugural semester as president, will open Convocation on Sunday. He returns to Lee after serving as president and CEO of the North American Coalition for Christian Admissions Professionals since 2001. Prior to that, he held several senior roles at Lee, including vice president for Enrollment. An ordained bishop in the Church of God, Dr. Cook holds a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, a Master of Divinity from the Church of God School of Theology, and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in business from Lee.

On Monday, Lee alum Kevin McGlamery will continue the sermon series. He currently serves as the lead pastor at the North Cleveland Church of God in Cleveland, and is a guest speaker in special services, revivals, and conferences. In addition, Pastor McGlamery is a member of the Executive Council for the Church of God. Prior to North Cleveland, he served at Life Church in Huntsville, Al., Lake Erie Church of God, and the Dalton Church of God. He received his Master of Arts (MA) in youth and family ministry from Lee.

Dr. David Cooper, also a Lee alum, will bring the message for Tuesday. Pastor of Mount Paran Church in Atlanta, Dr. Cooper is a pastoral counselor, author, and musician. He seeks to inspire people to experience God more fully through reading and music. After completing his bachelor’s degree in psychology at Lee, he went on to earn a doctorate from Erskine Theological Seminary.

Convocation will end on Wednesday evening with Pastor Worley. Pastor Worley graduated from Lee with a BS in pastoral studies and is currently pursuing an MA in ministry at Richmont Graduate University while serving at Go Church. He is an ordained bishop in the Church of God.

Evening services will take place at 7:30 in the Conn Center. Each service will begin with worship and praise led by LeeU Worship. Following the Sunday evening service, there will be a student mixer to foster fellowship and continued discussion, sponsored by the Student Connections & Engagement Office.

Lee encourages all students and guests to attend and participate in this semester’s Convocation. For those wishing to view online, services will be available via livestream at leeu.live and on Facebook. A livestream viewing will also be available in the Dixon Center on Monday and Tuesday evenings.
