Kevin James Shaughnessy, 63, of Hixson, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 8th, 2021.

Kevin was born in Seattle, Washington.  He graduated from Parkdale High in Riverdale, Maryland.  He earned his Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from Vanderbilt University in 1979.  Following graduation, Kevin entered the United States Navy as a Naval Surface Warfare Officer, with various assignments primarily at sea, until August 1985.  He retired as a Commander of the United States Naval Reserve in 2001. 

Kevin received his Masters of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 1987.  He began his career with Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Tennessee in Actuarial Services.  He continued his 25-year career with Provident Life & Accident Insurance Company and Unum in Financial planning and Analysis until his retirement in 2017.

Kevin was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Kevin is survived by his wife of 31 years, Nancy Hutsell Shaughnessy; son, Kevin James Shaughnessy, Jr.; parents, James and Constance Shaughnessy; sister, Patricia Call and a brother, Terry (Kathy) Shaughnessy; nieces, Christy Call (Jens) Christenson, and Jessica Shaughnessy; nephews, Ryan (Laura) Call, Dan (Danielle) Shaughnessy, and Ken Shaughnessy. 

There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

A private service for Kevin will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 20, at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Pastor Chris Ehlers officiating.
