Scuba Divers Successfully Carve Pumpkins Underwater Kicking Off ODDtober

  • Friday, October 1, 2021

The month of “ODDtober” got off to a fine start at the Tennessee Aquarium. Two of the Aquarium’s volunteer SCUBA divers demonstrated how to properly carve a Jack-O-Lanterns while underwater.

Volunteer SCUBA divers Craig Walker and Chris Kay dressed as superheroes during this friendly competition. They were able to carve the pumpkins in less that 15 minutes.

If you’ve never tried carving a pumpkin underwater with onlooking turtles and fish, here’s a pro tip from the experts at the Tennessee Aquarium: Add diver weights to the inside of the pumpkins. Most people don’t know it, but pumpkins float. Which adds to the challenge when you’re – carving pumpkins – underwater. Now you know.
