This morning I joined millions of people in watching the Blue Origin launch of the spaceship, the crew of which included the guy we fondly refer to as Captain Kirk.
There will be interview after interview after interview of actor William Shatner but if you have a chance, search for the video of him just minutes after stepping out of the spacecraft and speaking to Jeff Bezos. Sheer poetry it was.
Listen to his words and the several references to the 'thin blue line' between us and space. At 90 years of age, he references what he called the "enormity of space" and his comparison to the light of our earth versus the blackness of space. He makes it an analogy to death: the quickness of how we go from blue skies to something so totally different. Shatner's words can and could be part of a sermon.
How refreshing. No politics. No pointing of fingers, name calling and bluster. Instead, pure joy and a recognition that God created something, as Shatner referenced, "so much bigger than us". Not a bad reminder as we start each day.
