Tennessee Fans Hit A New Low - And Response (2)

Sunday, October 17, 2021

Tennessee Vols fans hit a new low at the end of the UTK vs Ole Miss last evening. Maybe Lane Kiffin did us wrong when he left Knoxville for his dream team back in 2009, however, the crass and repulsive behavior of a large number of Tennessee fans didn’t reflect on Kiffin, it reflected on the great state of Tennessee.

Has society really reduced itself to believing that reducing one’s self to a level they perceive someone else to live on makes either one a better person? I don’t care for Lane Kiffin, but I refuse to allow him to occupy space in my head.

It’s the coaches and players job to win a game and the fans job to cheer their team on.

The true victim of the bad behavior is new UTK coach Josh Heupel and the UTK players who are doing their best to make a comeback to the glory days of old. I wonder if coach Heupel is happy he took the job? I wonder if the players who bolted from Knoxville last year are happy for the choice they made. Time will tell.

The fans, the team and larger, the state of Tennessee, reverting to the days of stills; the local sheriff, the revenuer chasing after a car full of moonshine. Tennessee has to live down ranking for important areas like schools, education deficits and ranking near the bottom of important areas for all the citizens of the state. Saturday was a reminder that we have a way to go.

Can the UT system blame the scene at Vol stadium on drinking? Maybe, but more likely other factors are involved.  Maybe participants at a football game cannot have anything in their hands but their cell phones.

It would have been much more fun for the television audience just to see a celebration of the nice day, a college football game and popcorn floating in the air. Not the trash thrown and trash talk.

Robert Brooks

Well gee whiz, UT fans are the only in the history of sports to act like idiots at a sporting event. So we have 100 drunks that act like fools out of 102,000 people and we might as well shut down the whole UTAD.  If there were 100 fools that works out to one out of every 1,020 people at the stadium. Even if there were 200 that works out to one out of every 510.

If Robert Brooks is embarrassed to live in Tennessee I suggest he move to Mississippi, Alabama or Louisiana. In the US News ranking of states they are ranked 48, 49 and 50 respectively. Tennessee is #30 behind only Florida (13), Georgia (17), Missouri (28) in the SEC.

I have been going to UT games for 71 years. During that time I have seen the great coaches in SEC post-war history, including Bear Bryant, Bobby Dodd, Johnny Vaught (Ole Miss), Steve Spurrier, Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, Shug Jordan and Vince Dooley. Not one of them has ever had anything thrown at them. I think that says more about Lane Kiffin than UT fans.

Enjoy this year, Ole MIss fans, I'm sure Laney boy is already on the horn to LSU about their opening.

Ron Littlefield: Don't Invest In Moccasin Bend Hospital At The Present Location - And Response

I was pleased to see a strong and politically balanced rejection of the recently announced plan to pour more than $270 million into an attempt to prop up Moccasin Bend Hospital. Rarely do we see agreement from both the liberal and conservative editors of our local newspaper, but in this case both said don’t do it. Long ago it was realized that the local mental health facility ... (click for more)

John Shearer: Recalling Some Memorable Football Games From 50 Years Ago, Including Those Of Red Bank And Georgia

As one who lately has been remembering what all was going on in my life 50 years ago, I cannot forget what was taking place in the world of football in late November 1971, when I was a starry-eyed young fan. Perhaps most significant was the Oklahoma-Nebraska football game played on Thanksgiving afternoon, Nov. 25 – the same day of the month as 2021’s Thanksgiving. No. 1 Nebraska, ... (click for more)
