Signal Band Is State Champion For The First Time

  • Monday, November 8, 2021

The Signal Corps Marching Band from Signal Mountain Middle High School is a State Champion for the first time in school history.

They performed at the Tennessee Division II State Marching Band Championship Saturday at Stewart's Creek High School and swept all categories.

At the beginning of the season, Signal Corps also was recognized as overall champion at A Bradley Classic regional competition for the first time.

This year’s show has a train theme and is titled “Crossing Signal.”

Props include two train tunnels, a track tarp between the tunnels, and several crossing signals that light up. The Color Guard carries more train tracks used at different parts of the show as well as performing several flag routines. The drill that instrumentalists perform is fast paced with lots of intricate moves on the field.

This group will now perform in the Bands of America Grand National Championship on Friday morning at Lucas Oil stadium in Indianapolis.

"These kids are one of a kind and this is many years in the making," said head director Drew Buckner.

The band will rehearse in the stadium again on Tuesday, from 3-6 p.m., and end with a performance at 6 p.m. for anyone and everyone.

This will be a free community band performance in the SMMHS stadium.
