Russell J. “Rusty” Moon
Russell J. “Rusty” Moon, 93, of East Ridge, passed away on December 12, 2021, with his loved ones by his side.
He was a member of Temple Baptist Church. Rusty was a three-sport athlete. He excelled in fast pitch softball where he threw two no-hitters and struck out 16 out of 21 batters. In golf, Rusty hit four hole-in-ones. He was an above average bowler, he won a tournament on a pro bowler’s team, and he beat a pro bowler at Expressway Lanes in East Ridge. Rusty retired from Chattanooga Times Free Press after many years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeff and Anna Moon; his wife of 72 wonderful years, Joyce Tarpley Moon; his daughter, Kim Zimmer; two brothers; and five sisters.
Left behind to cherish Rusty’s memory are his daughter and son-in-law, Pam (Eric) Wood, grandchildren, Jeff Little, Wendy (Steve) Waller, Kory Zimmer, and Danielle Zimmer; his great-grandson, Pierce Waller; his brother, Jack Moon; and several nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
A Celebration of Rusty’s Life will be held in the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 15, with Pastor Jim Rushing and Bob McCoy officiating. The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, Dec. 14, at the funeral home from 5-9 p.m. He will be laid to rest in the Lakewood Memory Gardens South.
