Restaurants Should Have Large Signs Indicating Closed Dining Rooms

  • Sunday, March 21, 2021

I understand why some restaurants choose to close their dining rooms and only offer drive through service in these troubling times. These restaurants are apparently having trouble getting employees to work (especially since these employees can get more from our government for staying home than they can make working). I won’t get into that aspect of this.

My complaint is this: Why can’t these restaurants put up a sign on their door telling folks that the dining room is closed? I’ve gone to several fast food restaurants and parked my car and got to the door to discover it was locked. This is especially irritating to old folks who have a little trouble getting around.

I’ve gone to two Bojangles (which had a large sign on the door saying “Come On In”) to encounter a locked door to the dining room. Yesterday at Hardees in Ooltewah, I encountered the same thing. They had a little sign on the door that you couldn't read until you got up close. Their dining room has been open lately.

If these restaurants are going to close their dining room, they should at least have the common sense to put up a large sign somewhere that you can read from your car to let you know if the dining room is open or closed. Is this too much to ask?
