I just saw an article about the county possibly buying the McDonald Farm. I strongly ask everyone to support and speak out in favor of the acquisition.
But no less importantly, I would strongly urge everyone to ask the county to do so not for the purpose of creating yet another industrial park, but for the purpose of protecting and preserving an incredibly beautiful place for the benefit of both current residents and, more importantly, future generations as well.
We live in a world where natural beauty and open spaces are rapidly being consumed by sprawl and irrevocably lost. Let’s preserve the McDonald Farm as a reminder and monument to our county’s legacy for those who will follow us. By preserving that legacy, we can underscore not just the importance of what we have enjoyed, but the importance of the future land use decisions we make.
I hope that local foundations will join in this effort which I recognize should be, first and foremost, a community effort funded from county taxes as well as by individual donations. We need to preserve that which cannot recreated.
