Moc Golfers Third At Mountaineer Invitational

-The Chattanooga Mocs got off to a solid start at the Mountaineer Invitational. They started with a morning 302 at Pete Dye Golf Club before coming back with 299 in the afternoon. The puts the sextet in third overall.

Gabe Hunter, a freshman transfer from Utah State, led the morning counting cards with 74. That was one ahead of Connor Nolan’s 75 which was one better than Matt Smith’s 76. A.J. Lintunen completed the 302 with 77 as the incremental climb continued with Alex Cobb and Paul Conroy dropping 78 and 79, respectively.

Lintunen came back with the team’s low round.
He turned in a level-par 72. Hunter came back with another 74 as Conroy and Smith counted 76 and 77. Nolan shot 80 and Cobb 82 for the afternoon throwaways. 

Hunter is tied for sixth at 4 over with Lintunen tied for ninth at 5 over. Smith is also in the top 20 tied for 20th at 153. Smith and Conroy matched at 155 as Cobb tallied 160 for the day.

Southern Miss has the lead shooting 589. That’s three better than host West Virginia’s 592. The Mocs are third with their 601 which is two better than former Southern Conference rival Georgia Southern and Loyola Maryland in fourth at 603. 

Tuesday’s final round starts at 9 a.m. The Mocs, paired with GSU, heads off the first tee with Hunter and Smith off first followed at 9:10 by Conroy and Nolan before the 9:20 grouping that includes Lintunen and Cobb. Click the scoring link above for complete results and pairings when available.
