Point Park Offers Free Entrance On Saturday To Kick Off National Park Week

  • Thursday, April 15, 2021

Point Park atop Lookout Mountain, part of  Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, is waiving the entrance fee on Saturday, to celebrate the first day of National Park Week.

This fee free day provides an opportunity for visitors to learn the history about the Battle of Lookout Mountain while enjoying the beautiful views of Chattanooga and its surrounding areas.

During the day, park rangers will be available inside the Lookout Mountain Battlefield Visitor Center from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to answer questions and provide information about the park and the Battles for Chattanooga.

The purpose of Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park is to preserve, protect, and interpret the nationally significant resources associated with the Civil War Campaign for Chattanooga and the 12,000 years of American Indian presence on Moccasin Bend. With its historic significance, scenic views, and 80-mile trail system, the park continues to serve as a major driver of the local tourism economy, remaining the top tourist destination in the greater Chattanooga area with nearly 1 million visitors.  In 2019, park visitors spent $58 million in surrounding communities, supporting almost 870 private sector jobs for a cumulative economic benefit of almost $72 million to the local economy.
