This year, Special Olympics Tennessee is completing a statewide Law Enforcement Torch Run running the Flame of Hope across the state. The goal is to have the entire state completed by end of July.
The Collegedale to Cleveland leg of the run will take place on Thursday, July 8.
The run is open to the community. Runners will leave from the Collegedale Police Department at 9 a.m.
More than 400 officers representing more than 40 Tennessee agencies have already participated carrying the torch more than 450 miles already.
Due to the impact of Covid-19, officials are unable to host the annual State Summer Games. Currently, plans are underway for three Regional Summer Games which will allow for the opportunity for more Special Olympics athletes and Unified partners to participate in this year's events. Proceeds from the statewide run will support the more than 18,000 Special Olympics athletes across the state.
The run is open to the community. $20 covers registration and participation in the Law Enforcement Torch Run and secures a Torch Run T-shirt.
