Maggie “Shug” Brown Morgan, 98, loving mother and grandmother, passed away on Saturday, August 14, 2021. Maggie was called “Shug” by her many friends and affectionately called “Big Mama” by her many grandchildren.

Maggie was born on April 19, 1923 to Ruby Mae Thrasher and  Lamar Brown. She was an only child and a mother to thirteen children. She was a widower who resided in Athens, GA and Cleveland, OH for a number of years before moving her family to Chattanooga, TN.

Maggie graduated from Athens High and Industrial School. She retired from St. Barnabas Nursing Home after providing thirty-three years of service. Her previous employment included babysitting for family and friends, the telephone company in Cleveland, OH and Alamo Plaza Hotel in Chattanooga.

Maggie was a faithful member of Galilee Baptist Church until her health failed. She donated to several organizations including Feed the Children and St. Jude Research Hospital.  Maggie enjoyed visiting with family and friends. She loved to watch soap operas and westerns on television as well as reading her newspaper daily. She was loved and she gave love in return. She will be missed by so many. However, her favorite saying “God Is Still In Charge” will live on.

Maggie was preceded in death by her husband, Lune Morgan, Jr.; mother, Ruby Mae Thrasher Anderson; father, Lamar Brown; children, John Ealey, Sr., Patricia and Clifford Ealey, William and Larry Morgan; grandchildren, Antonio and Clarence Ealey, Jr., Rodney Morgan.
