Frankie Harris Barger, 91, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2021.

Frankie graduated Meigs County High School in Decatur, Tn., in 1948. She worked for DuPont in Chattanooga, then had a long career with Red Food Stores in Chattanooga and surrounding areas. She retired in 1997 and began almost 30 years of living with her son, Jim’s family; this included years in Memphis, Tn., Austin, Tx., and Tellico Village, Tn.

Frankie taught herself how to play guitar.  When she was first married, she performed in the Chattanooga area and on a local radio station with the Melody Gang that also included her husband, his cousin and her brother. More recently, she performed weekly in the “Frankie and Ray Show” at The Neighborhood (assisted living) and at a local Open Mic until the COVID lockdown.

Frankie spread joy to many through her sense of humor and sharp wit, caring attitude and creative talents. Her recipes, and her poems and stories about many events in her life were shared with many.

Frankie’s hope was that people would remember her as a very caring person who loved to help others, and that they could see Christ in her by the way she lived.

She was predeceased by her husband, L.E. (Lee) Barger; her parents, Charlie and Blanche Harris; sister, Eloise (J.L) Hooper; brother, Charles (Wilma) Harris.

Frankie is survived by her son, Jim (Donna) Barger; and her grandson, Nicholas (Dylan) Barger.

There will be a celebration of her life on Oct. 10, beginning at 3 p.m., at her church, Community Church of Tellico Village, 130 Chota Center, Loudon, Tn.

In lieu of flowers, Frankie requested donations be made to Vanderbilt University Medical Center at 3322 West End Ave. Suite 900 Nashville, Tn 37203.
