Lillie Carter
Lillie Ruth Carter, 81, passed away on August 28, 2021, in Chattanooga.
Born in McCormick, SC, on November 5, 1939, she was welcomed by her parents Arthur Calhoun and Bernice Calhoun.
“Sista" or “Mama” as we called her, was a godly woman. She would give you the shirt off her back if she could.
Mama loved helping everybody. One of her gifts was cooking for the homeless. Every Monday and Tuesday she fed them.
Mama enjoyed going to church every Sunday. She served an awesome God!
She was a member of Greater New Home Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully over the feeding ministry. She was a member of the choir and attended Senior Saints meetings. She was well-known throughout the community.
Some of the things I recall talking to Mama about would be asking her about going to church. “Mama, are you going tomorrow?”
She would say, “If the Lord spares me". If she asked you a question, she would answer it with one more daily quote. She would say, “This is the day the Lord has made, Let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
Mama, we love you and will miss you.
