Eugene J. “Gene” Mack, Sr., 93, of East Ridge, passed away on Wednesday, September 29, 2021.

He was born in Chicago, IL on October 14, 1927 to the late Irene and Louis Mack.  He was also preceded in death by his loving stepfather, Otto Zelin of Buffalo, NY.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army and upon his honorable discharge he began his career with the Paymaster Corp. in 1953, traveling throughout the southeast meeting and making many lifelong friends along the way.  His pleasant personality was contagious to everyone he met.  He retired in 2000 after 47 years of service.  Gene loved spending time with his children and grandsons who he adored.  He was an avid Braves fan, he enjoyed traveling to Florida and the mountains of North Carolina until his early 90s, and caring for his little furry companion, “Amy” who was faithfully by his side. Indeed a life well-lived, he will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Margaret Mack; son, Gene Mack, Jr. (Megan); daughters, Lynnette Waters (Glenn) and Leslie Cunningham (Jim); grandsons, Dustin Waters and Michael Mack; great granddaughter, Tinsley Waters; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hearth Hospice and Leona White for the loving care they provided.

A private burial will be held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in East Ridge, Tn.
