UTC Track and Field Travel To Birmingham For SoCon Championships

 The Chattanooga women’s outdoor track and field team heads to Birmingham, Ala., to compete in the 2025 Southern Conference Championships hosted by Samford Monday and Tuesday.

The Mocs get the championships started with Norah Haney in the Heptathlon in the morning. The rest of the team will get started at 4:00 p.m. with the long jump and the 1500 meter trials.

Stella Henry  ranks fourth in the Southern Conference with jump of 5.70 meters at the Lee University Invitational earlier this season. Ava McGue is 15th in the event at 5.31 meters.

Leah Boyd, Lexi Foley, Lesley Boyd and Maddie Wheatcroft are set to compete in the 1500 meter prelims. Wheatcroft ran a 4:26.51 in the event at the Georgia Tech Invitational. Lesley Boyd, also at Georgia Tech, ran a 4:29.11.

McGue suits up for the 400 meter trials at 5:00 p.m. followed by Ryleigh Simmons in the 100 meter trials. She ranks fourth in the SoCon standings with a time 11.89 at the Tennessee Invitational.

Lexi Foley and Taylor Crawford will run the 800 meter at 5:40 where Foley is ranked 15th in the league standings, running a 2:17.99 at Georgia Tech. Addie McKeown and Taylor Crawford are up next in the 400 meter Hurdles trials. Unterholzner is eighth in the league standings at 1:04.54.

Simmons returns to the start for the 200 meter dash trials. She ran a 24.75 at the Tennessee Invitational, ranking eighth in the SoCon standings.

EV McGowan toes the line for the 3000 meter Steeplechase at 7:00 p.m. followed by the 10,000 meter final with Andrea Ellis, Michaela Dabney, Emma Thweatt and Brooke Tyll to close out Day One.

Day Two begins again with Haney in the Heptathlon at 9:15 a.m.. Henry takes part in the triple jump at 1:00 p.m. followed by the National Anthem.

The Mocs put a team in the 4x100 meter relay of Unterholzner, McGue, Haney, Simmons with Henry as an alternate.

Beginning at 1:20 p.m. are the finals for the 1500-, 400-, 100-, 800-, and 200-meter races. The 5000 meter run with Leah Boyd, Andrea Ellis, Lesley Boyd, Brooke Tyll and Maddie Wheatcroft gets underway at 3:40 p.m.

Lesley Boyd ranks second in the SoCon in the 5000 meters with a time of 16:09.46. Wheatcroft is third, Leah Boyd is ninth and Ellis is 15th in the SoCon standings.

The meet will conclude for Chattanooga with the 4x400 meter relay with Unterholzner, McKeown, Crawford, McGue and alternates Foley and Wheatcroft.

Live stats will be available both days and ESPN+ coverage will begin Tuesday afternoon.
