Marijka Grey, MD, Installed As 2022 Medical Society President

Marijka Grey, MD, has been installed as the 2022 President of the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Medical Society. She is the sixth female and first black president in the organization’s 139-year history.

Dr. Grey, an internal medicine physician, is the system vice president of Ambulatory Transformation and Innovation with CommonSpirit Health, the parent company of CHI Memorial. She succeeds Immediate Past President Carlos Baleeiro, MD, with CHI Memorial Lung Associates. Other officers are Richard Moody, MD, president-elect, internal medicine with Chattanooga Family Practice, and Melanie Blake, MD, secretary-treasurer, internal medicine with Lifestyle Medicine at Galen.

Leading the organization’s 1,100 members, Dr. Grey will focus on three key strategies:
• Beyond the Pandemic – resources to help both physician and practices thrive both during and after COVID-19 pandemic;
• Joy in Practice – Focusing on the needs of physician members and their practices and the tools needed to cultivate fulfillment in their daily work; and
• Community Health - serving our community through the continued work of Project Access, as well as new ventures to decrease health disparities.

“Over the last two years, the Medical Society has led within our local community guiding a unified response to the pandemic and has acted as a trusted resource of information in the cacophony of competing and, often conflicting, national information,” Dr. Grey said. “In 2022, I hope to continue that focus on our communities, making sure that the physicians of Hamilton County have the tools that they need to continue this honored profession.”

New members of the 2022 Medical Society board are Steven Fox, MD, UT Family Practice; Jeffrey Mullins, MD, CHI Memorial Urology Associates; Eugene Ryan, MD, Parkridge Primary Care; and Harsha Vardhana, MD, Tennessee Oncology. They are joining returning board members Allen Coffman, MD, Highland Pediatrics; Hayley Everett, MD, UT College of Medicine Resident; Suzan House, MD, Scenic City Rheumatology; Robert Jean, MD, University Surgical Associates; Harish Manyam, MD, Erlanger Heart & Lung Institute; John McCarley, MD, Nephrology Associates; Michael Nichols, MD, Tennessee Interventional and Imaging Associates; Mukta Panda, MD, UT College of Medicine; and Kate Shuster, Galen Dermatology.
