Emily “Jane” Williams, 69, of Cohutta, went home to Heaven on Sunday, December 4, 2022.

Jane was born on July 7, 1953 to Mayford and Frankie Williams. She grew up in the Dalton and Cohutta communities and graduated from North Whitfield High School in 1971 and Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, TN in 1975 where she majored in music education.

Jane had a very gifted voice and musical talent. She enjoyed playing the piano and singing for many years in church choirs within her community and she could also occasionally be found on stage performing in plays at the local theaters. Jane later went on to obtain her master’s degree and specialist degree in special education. Over the next 30 years, she would spend her time as a special education teacher for Murray and Whitfield County schools. Her life’s greatest delight and calling was teaching her special needs children. She truly adored her students and would invest many hours inside and outside the classroom with them until her retirement. After retirement, Jane went back to the classroom part-time as a graduation test coach because she desperately wanted to see students succeed. Jane was also an incredible daughter to Mayford and Frankie. She enjoyed traveling out West with them on several trips, spending time with them, and, eventually, she selflessly gave up her days to become a full-time caregiver to her mother. No one could have loved or cared for them better than Jane did.

Jane will be remembered for her uncanny ability to tell stories, make others laugh, and talk your “ears off.” She would go to any length to make sure people laughed uncontrollably in her presence…often at her own expense! Jane loved her family, Tennessee sports, and her cats. She was a “crazy cat lady” and proud of it! Jane will certainly be missed by all of those that loved and knew her.

Jane is preceded in death by her parents, Mayford and Frankie Williams of Cohutta; brother, Danny Williams of Cohutta; and great-niece, Keri Joyce of Dalton.

She is survived by her brother, Wayne Joyce of Cohutta; sister-in-law, Rachel Williams of Cohutta; nephews and nieces, Kelly (Susan) Joyce of Calhoun, Matt (Cristinia) Williams of Cohutta, Kevin (Kate) Joyce of Dalton, and Beth (Barry) Ownby of Cohutta; special friend, Calloway “Chunky” Adams. She is also survived by several great-nephews and great-nieces as well as many beloved cousins.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, in the Pleasant Grove Chapel of Julian Peeples Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the service at 3 p.m.
