Larry Askew, 78, left for heaven on Friday, February 11, 2022.

He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many.

Larry was born in McMinnville, Tn. on Aug. 13, 1943.  He later moved to Chattanooga where he mostly resided in the Harrison-Ooltewah area.  Larry worked for Overnite Transportation Company where he was known as “Hounddog.” He was a member of the Harrison Masonic Lodge 114 for many years.  He also became a ham radio operator and was a member of the Chattanooga Amateur Radio Club, where he also participated in the ARES Emergency Service.  Larry, also known as Pepaw, touched many hearts during his life including Aidan Muccino “Uncle-Aideen”, Dylan Creasman “Dilly”, Kayla Green “Coconut Pie”, Caleb Brown “KW”, Victor Bednarski “Vic”, Richard Bednarski “Rich”, Maddi McCracken “Matti-Patti”, Katie Lewis “Pineapple Pie”, and the 2019 Bradley Bearettes. They will miss his infectious laugh, his comedic personality, and most of all his love.

Larry was proceeded by his parents, Henry and Aline Askew, and his sister, Charlene Smith.

He leaves to watch over the love of his life, his wife of 59 years, Jean; his beloved son, Steve Askew; his loving and caring daughter, Joanne Askew Martin; grandson, Kane “Toodle” Hullender; and his granddaughter, Kaitlin “Sweet-Tater” Hullender (who gave him the proudest and happiest years of his life).

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Feb. 15, at Turner Funeral Home at Hwy 58 from 4-8 p.m.

A masonic graveside service will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 16, at noon at Lakewood Memorial Gardens East.

Pallbearers will be Steve Askew, Kane Hullender, Aidan Muccino, Dylan Creasman, Ronnie Davis and Caleb Brown.
