After planning and working on a new bar for a couple of years, Jared Padovani, one of the owners, was given a beer license for Boneyard Bar at 26 Station St., that will have an auto shop theme. The three owners have a collective 25-30 years of experience in the hospitality industry in Chattanooga. Mr. Padovani has been the beverage manager for Vision Hospitality most recently. Boneyard Bar will be opening in a 3,500-square-foot space, yet will have seating for just 144 people because the owners want it to have a feel of a low-keyed neighborhood bar.

The bar will have both a front entrance that will be delineated with a row of planters and a gate to separate the patio on that side from Station Street, and a six-and-a-half-foot fence around the bar’s back patio. The focus will be to use the back patio because of the recent “chaos,” that has been taking place on Station Street that has involved fights and guns in the street and in the Blue Light Bar.

Other plans for security that the Boneyard Bar will be implementing is to have a full security camera system both inside and outside. There will be security guards checking IDs at both entrances and hired security officers around the bar that will be licensed. All servers will be trained in selling alcohol by the Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission.

Mariscos Vallarta, a new seafood and Mexican grill, will be opening at 2318 Shallowford Village Dr. in the old Shoney’s building. Hours will be from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. during the week and it will be open  until 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. At the Thursday beer board meeting, this business was unanimously approved for a permit to sell beer.

Several months ago, Levy Premium Foodservice Limited Partnership took over all the food and beverage services for the Chattanooga Convention Center, 1 Carter Street, and at that time the firm was approved for a license to serve beer. On Thursday, General Manager Jennifer Asgwan returned to apply for an off-premise catering beer permit in order to serve beer at events that clients may want to hold in various other locations around Chattanooga. Levy Premium Foodservice is a management company  that, in addition to food and beverages, will be in charge of staffing. This arrangement is independent from the hotel at the Convention Center.

The beer board also approved two special event beer permits. “Pink! Gala” will be held outside at the First Horizon Pavilion this year because of COVID. It will be on March 12, from 5:30 p.m. until 11:55 p.m. at 1801 Reggie White Blvd. The money raised by this benefit will ensure that the latest technology is available at the Mary Ellen Locher Breast Center.

The Chattanooga Breakfast Rotary Club was given a permit for “Brew Skies Festival” at AT&T Field, at 201 Power Alley on March 12. From 12 to 4 p.m. ticket holders will have the chance to sample beer from 70 brewers.

The Blue Light Bar, 43 Station St., which has been opened only six months, has been before the Chattanooga Beer Board four times since November for multiple serious violations resulting in the suspension of its beer license three times, in addition to other lesser penalties. Owners Brian Joyce and Joseph Bruns have appealed the decisions of the board in Hamilton County Chancery Court. For the 30-day suspension given in November, the court date is March 25. The board also gave the bar two two-week suspensions in February that are to run concurrently. These also have been appealed. Two additional violations that the bar is accused of were scheduled to be heard at the beer board meeting on Thursday, but because of an availability conflict with the bar’s attorney, the hearing will be heard at the April 7 meeting.
