Peggy Martin Wilkerson, 90, transitioned to eternal life on Thursday, May 12, 2022. 

A native of Chattanooga, she was the daughter of the late Marie H. Martin. Mrs. Wilkerson received her business degree from the University of Chattanooga and retired as secretary to the executive director of Senior Neighbors of Chattanooga. She was executive secretary of the Chattanooga Tennis Association for 17 years and was also the secretary/treasurer of the Chattanooga Tennis Foundation for 20 years. Mrs. Wilkerson was one of the founding members of the Tennessee Senior Games board of directors, serving as chairperson for two terms. 

Mrs. Wilkerson was a life-long member of First-Centenary United Methodist Church where she served in many leadership roles within the Altar Guild, the United Methodist Women and the Hodge Class.  She also served as an American Red Cross Hospital volunteer at Memorial Hixson Hospital, a local precinct worker with the Hamilton County Election Commission, and a board member and president of the Kingston Cove Interval Owners Association at Hilton Head Island, SC.

Mrs. Wilkerson’s passions were for that of her family and friends, her church, tennis and service to others.  She also loved to travel and considered Hilton Head Island and Hawaii as her favorite destinations. 

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, Edgar Wilkerson.

Survivors include her children, Mitch Wilkerson, Marie (Scott) Jackson, Pete (Julie) Wilkerson; grandchildren, Sawyer and Hunter Jackson, Kyle Wilkerson.

The family will receive friends at First-Centenary United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 28, from 10-11 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11:15 a.m. with Dr. Mark Gooden officiating.

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of the Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory, 5401 Highway 153.
