Captain Kevin West, USN (ret) will be the keynote speaker at the 2022 Memorial Day Commemoration Ceremony at the Chattanooga National Cemetery Pavilion on May 30 at 11 a.m. The ceremony will last approximately one hour.
All parking is at the National Guard Armory, with shuttle services to the ceremony provided by VVA Post 203, Wilson Funeral Home and CARTA.
The Department of Veterans Affairs Chattanooga National Cemetery will host a solemn Memorial Day wreath laying ceremony, accompanied by speeches, a moment of silence and the playing of Taps, rifle volley.
"This will be the first public Memorial Day ceremony at our cemetery since 2019, and we are eager to have the local community attend," officials said.
" The VA operates 155 national cemeteries and 34 soldiers' lots and monument sites in 44 states and Puerto Rico. More than five million Americans, including veterans of every war and conflict, are buried in VA cemeteries. Fulfilling President Lincoln’s call 'to care for him who shall have borne the battle,' the VA also provides headstones, markers or medallions for veterans buried in state, territorial and tribal veterans’ cemeteries or interred in private cemeteries."
While this will be an outdoor event, all attendees are encouraged to adhere to CDC guidelines, wear masks and maintain physical distancing from other attendees to limit the transmission of COVID-19.
