Virginia Ruth “Nana” Haynes, 92, of Chattanooga, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 29, 2022.

 

She was born in Bridgeport, AL on February 17, 1930, to the late Russell C. and Minervia Baker. Raised in Jasper, TN, she married in 1946 and eventually moved to the Chattanooga area. In 1962 the family settled in Lookout Valley. She lived in the same house for 60 years, the site of many Sunday dinners and family/holiday gatherings. For over 50 years she was “Nana” to many and will greatly be missed. She retired from Valley Liquors after more than 26 years.

 

She is survived by one son, James (Teresa) Haynes of Trenton; 13 grandchildren – Mary (Wade) Irwin, Virginia/Jenny (Jose) Machado, Barbara Spires, Renae (Ivan) Valezquez, Rusty Haynes, Lynda (Kenny) Martin, Kim (Tikwain) Adams, Christie (Larry) Mace, Gena (Davey) Sims, Danielle (Jamie) Webb, Jason Russell, Tonya Haynes, Lisa Goss; 39 great-grandchildren; 30 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Bonnie (Bobby) Woolard of Lebanon, Tn.; several nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Haynes; two sons, Billy F. Haynes and Rusty Haynes; a daughter, Debbie Goss; four grandchildren, Robert Haynes, James Guffey, Catherine Marie Forester, Phillip Corley; two brothers, William Russell Baker and John Allen Baker; two sisters, Gussie Mae Duke and Mary Pauline Pitt.


There will be a Celebration of Life honoring Nana on June 11, from 2-5 p.m. at the Lookout Valley Mason Lodge #673, 426 Browns Ferry Road, Chattanooga, Tn. 37419.
