Jim Warren Barker
Jim Warren Barker, a loving father and devoted husband, was born August 27, 1929, to Judge Burrell William Barker and Nolia Gibson Barker.
He was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga and attended Baylor and Chattanooga High School. Jim received a BA from the University of Chattanooga. He married Barbara Jean Watts on September 15, 1950.
Jim worked for over 30 years as a sales representative for Sandoz Pharmaceuticals. He was an active member of Central Church of Christ for 74 plus years.
His warm, gentle nature and sense of humor made him beloved by all who knew him. Jim never met a stranger.
Jim is survived by his wife of 74 years, Barbara Watts Barker; his two daughters, Jenny (Chris) Simmons and Judy (Jay) Shappley; his five grandchildren, Jennifer Shappley, Taylor (Sarah) Shappley, Christopher Shappley, Tanner (Jenna) Simmons and Tyler Simmons; his four great-grandchildren, Evy Shappley, Heidi Shappley, Lydia Shappley and Graham Jay Simmons; and also by numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins and family members.
A visitation for Jim will be held Saturday, Aug. 2 from 10-11 a.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home – North Chapel, 5401 Hwy. 153, Hixson, Tn. 37343. The funeral service will follow starting at 11 a.m. The family will then proceed to Chattanooga Memorial Park for the committal service.
